“Connections are the soul of PCBC.”
PCBC was launched in 1959 as a small educational conference at the Sheraton Palace Hotel in San Francisco. To say that the event has grown and evolved since then would be a considerable understatement. It was, at one point in the housing boom of the early- to mid-2000s, the fastest growing tradeshow in the nation, as ranked by Tradeshow Week magazine. And while that designation was flattering, PCBC’s enduring value and distinctiveness has never been about raw numbers. Instead, as one of our board members puts it, “Connections are the soul of PCBC.”
You can find larger housing industry events. But you will not find any higher caliber events, drawing more influential builders, creating richer intersections of capital—human, intellectual and financial—anywhere in North America. Through targeted educational forums, exclusive networking venues, a curated exhibit floor experience, product “matchmaking” sessions and more, PCBC is dedicated to creating better ways for buyers and sellers to productively engage.
Who attends? PCBC is a gathering of America’s most prominent residential builders, developers, architects, building scientists, lenders, investors, marketers and product manufacturers. Although PCBC made its name as a homebuilding event, it now draws major builders of a wide range of housing forms—single-family, multifamily, mixed-use, seniors’ and resort development.
The country's largest volume builders call PCBC home because it offers them unparalleled connections:
- Connections with leading sources of capital, creating opportunities to talk real deals with lenders, private debt and equity providers, and institutional investors.
- Connections with leading architects and trendsetters from the design community, including the esteemed Gold Nugget Awards program, housing’s oldest and most admired design competition.
- Connections with leading manufacturers of building products, systems and services, including discussions and tutorials with R&D engineers and building performance experts.
- Connections with fellow leaders, through PCBC’s partnership with Leading Builders of America, and at prestigious gatherings such as the Leader-to-Leader Forum and the Hall of Fame Awards.
HOME OF INNOVATION The Pacific coast has long been one of the great hubs of innovation. From technology to bioscience to the sustainability movement, the region doesn’t just buck trends, it defines the future. The PCBC audience, influenced by the innovative culture and population of the region, has led the way in integrating new technologies—including higher performing building materials and systems—into the home. PCBC’s community of builders, architects, building scientists and product manufacturers is driving innovative new approaches in:
- Architectural and land planning design
- Environmental and sustainable building practices
- The integration of new technologies into homes and the building process
- The adoption of a community-centric approach to residential development
EDUCATION Each year, PCBC presents a family of high-level educational forums, plus dynamic keynote sessions featuring some of the brightest talents in business, journalism, sports and entertainment (Tom Peters, Malcolm Gladwell, Fareed Zakaria, Magic Johnson and Francis Ford Coppola, to name a few). Focused on best-practice case studies and game-changing ideas and innovation, PCBC’s education is presented by a faculty of housing’s most respected thinkers and practitioners.
NETWORKING PCBC has always been, ultimately, about the people—the rich connections with industry leaders that you won’t find at any other housing event. These connections occur at celebrated galas like the Gold Nugget Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner; in vertical conferences that create discipline-specific learning and networking environments; and through facilitated engagements like the newly created Key Buyers Club. But the best connections might just be the unexpected ones—the spontaneous conversations in hallways, the renewing of relationships with colleagues you haven’t seen in years, or the chance meeting that ends up being exactly the contact you needed.
EXHIBIT FLOOR In addition to the hundreds of booths showcasing major manufacturers and service providers, PCBC’s exhibit floor annually features specialty pavilions exploring breakthrough solutions in energy, smart home technologies, green products, water conservation and outdoor living—plus tutorials and "ask the expert" sessions to help you implement these new advances.
PCBC also creates a “best of the best” exhibit floor experience through its highly popular Curator Led Tours. Prominent builders, architects and building scientists will select the most innovative, problem-solving products on the exhibit floor, then lead narrated tours to view those products and discuss their features with manufacturer representatives.
Through these showcases, tutorials and tours, PCBC is delivering on its core purpose: to cut through the randomness of the typical tradeshow, and to facilitate better ways for buyers and sellers to productively, purposefully engage.
